Postpartum

The Fourth Trimester is such an amazing time - you're welcoming your baby home, you're healing and settling into your new self, and your relationships shift as you focus on your new "normal". It is beautiful AND exhausting. Your experience during this precious time can shape the rest of your life. Let's face it - you NEED support!

Join UVC and other parents as we facilitate weekly gatherings. Come on over, meet other first (even second and third) time parents, from Uptown Manhattan and The Bronx with us. We will engage in friendly conversation, have parenting discussions, gather valuable resources, ask questions, explore our neighborhood, make new friends and have fun together! Together we will learn about sleep and schedules, childcare options, and so much more. Our goal is to provide you and your family with the support needed to help make the transition into parenthood easier.

Placenta encapsulation is the process of dehydrating and encapsulating (putting into capsules) a placenta. This includes making a tincture, smoothies, salves/balms/body butters and so much more! Did you know that placentas are magical? They nurtured the baby in the womb, and it nurtures baby outside by nourishing the parent. Each placenta is unique - made specifically for the needs of your baby and you! Placentas can replenish, balance, and revitalize your energy. It supports your emotional and physical well-being by balancing hormones. It can help increase breast/chest milk production, decrease postpartum bleeding and so much more.

Your postpartum doula can help you with your lactation needs, such as latch assessment, troubleshooting any pain, and suggesting more comfortable positions and feeding routines. Your doula may recommend more focused lactation visits by a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Lactation

During a 1-2 hour lactation home visit, a lactation specialist offers support to help improve your breastfeeding journey by observing a feeding and providing an assessment. We will assist with helping you find a comfortable latch and position(s), alleviating breast pain. We will assess milk transfer (doing pre- and post-feeding weights), and address milk supply concerns. We will set up an individualized feeding plan, and follow-up with a call or email within one week of your visit to ensure that you’re making progress.

Classes are led by lactation specialists to help you achieve your infant feeding goals. Lactation Basics 101 is a 3-hour class designed to cover everything you need to know to build a good milk supply. We will cover how breasts make milk; comfortable positions and how to establish an effective latch; recognizing feeding cues; what infant feeding looks like in the first weeks; pumping questions; community resources; and more. Your partner or support person is encouraged to attend. Let us help you with your feeding journey!

Our breastfeeding support groups are led by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). We have a scale available, which allows us to monitor your infant’s milk intake at the breast by weighing before and after a feeding session. It is an informal, supportive space where you may share breastfeeding wins, challenges, and goals.
